Introduction

Colours of the Royal Danish Army usually are not parted by an off-centred cross but an off-centred cross patty instead. The image at top just displays the basic appearance is not related to any specific flag. The army is divided into two brigades, which might have no proper flags, but most of the 10 regiments of the army, or parts of them, are subordinated to one of the brigades. Any Danish regimental colour (regimentsfane) is red parted by an off-centred white cross patty and is made from double-layered red and white silk, with edgings and braids in the same colours. Cords and tassels are made from gold thread. The regimental badge and name as well as the crowned royal cypher of the reigning monarch, Queen Margrethe II, is applied in gold leaf.

Regimental Colours

Danish Artillery Colours

Brief History

The Danish Artillery Regiment was established in 2005, when the King´s Artillery Regiment and the Queen´s Artillery Regiment were amalgamated. The new regiment was granted a proper colour.
The new regiment traces its history back to 1684, when The Royal Artillery Corps was established by King Christian V. Following the WW2 Danish artillery was reorganised in two air defense regiments and four field artillery regiments. The latter had been:
The Crown Artillery Regiment
The Zealand Artillery Regiment
The Northern Jutland Artillery Regiment
The Southern Jutland Artillery Regiment
The first two regiments were amalgamated and became the King´s Artillery Regiment in 1982. The last two became the Queen´s Artillery Regiment in 2000.

The Intelligence Regiment (Efterretnings Regimentet)

[Danish Intelligence regiment] image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 12 July 2025

An Army Intelligence Centre (Hærens Efterretningscenter) was established on 1 March 2014. On 1 January 2019 it was upgraded to a regiment. The new Intelligence Regiment (Efterretningsregimentet) consists of two battalions:
1st Battalion Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance and
2nd Battalion Military Intelligence.
In 2020 it had been the youngest regiment of Denmark.
The regiment is garrisoned in Varde. Queen Margrethe II came to Varde on 24 October 2019 to present a new regimental colour (regimentsfane) to the regiment. The colour is made of red and white silk adorned with edgings and braids, also of red and white; cords and tassels are made from gold thread with gold and silver leaf work. The royal cypher of the Queen of Denmark, M2R for Margrethe II Regina, with a royal crown on top – is applied in gold leaf. The regiment´s badge (regimentsmærke) and name are applied in silver leaf. The use of silver is not common on Danish regimental colours. Normally, regimental badges and names are in gold.
The badge displays a key and a flash of lighting in saltire under a double rose as a symbol of secrecy. Something being "under the rose" (Latin: sub rosa) means that it is secret and confidential. The key symbolises access to information, the lighting symbolises energy and strength. The royal crown is on top and the royal cypher is the centre of the rose.
Traditionally, Danish regimental badges include the royal cypher of the Danish monarch under whose reign the regiment had been raised. In lower hoist corner is a centred inscription in golden initials "EFTERRETNINGS" (1st line) "REGIMENTET" (2nd line). The regiment is garrisoned in Varde.
